Cylinder head reconditioning is one of the most frequent jobs in our workshop: every week, cylinder heads from MWM (Deutz), Jenbacher and Guascor cogeneration engines pass through our benches. In this article we show the complete process with a real case: the 16 cylinder heads of an MWM TCG 2016 V16 engine, fully reconditioned to be installed back into the owner’s engine.

In addition to reconditioning the customer’s own heads, we keep a large stock of reconditioned cylinder heads for the main models, available for supply or exchange when the shutdown cannot wait.
Why the cylinder head is a critical component
The cylinder head seals the cylinder, houses the valves and regulates the intake and exhaust of gases in synchronisation with the engine cycle. In cogeneration and gas engines, which run at high loads for thousands of hours, keeping the heads in condition has direct consequences:
- Efficiency and performance: efficient combustion translates into better performance and lower fuel consumption.
- Nominal power: a worn head affects compression and reduces the engine’s available power.
- Emissions: a head in good condition helps keep emissions within regulated limits.
- Reliability: proper cylinder head maintenance extends engine life and reduces unplanned downtime.
- Safety: a faulty head can cause coolant, oil or exhaust gas leaks, with risk to people and facilities.
Our reconditioning process, step by step

- Complete disassembly of the cylinder heads, with detailed documentation of every stage.
- Ultrasonic cleaning of the casing to remove dirt, residues and deposits.
- Inspection of all surfaces to detect cracks, deformation or structural damage.
- Surface repair, where necessary, by precision machining.
- Replacement of all wear items with genuine or original OEM parts: new valve guides, intake and exhaust seats and valves, valve rotators (rotocaps) where fitted, and spark plug sleeve.
- Replacement of gaskets and O-rings.
- Final hydraulic test to verify the tightness of every head.
- High-resistance priming and painting to protect the head and ensure its durability.

The result is a cylinder head in original functional condition, with documented traceability, at a fraction of the cost of a new one.
Reconditioned heads in stock for supply or exchange
If your shutdown cannot wait for your own heads to be reconditioned, ask us: we keep stock of reconditioned cylinder heads for the main MWM (Deutz), Jenbacher and Guascor models, ready for delivery or exchange.

Beyond cylinder head reconditioning, RS Motor offers engine repair — like this E70 overhaul of an MWM TCG 2016 V16 — and the supply of new and reconditioned spare parts.
