This week, the RS Motor’s engine maintenance service workshop has completed an Deutz-Mwm engine overhaul, in this case a TCG 2020 V12. This engine generates over 1000 kW of power at 1500 rpm, running on biogas as fuel.
The engine has been delivered and sent back to our client in the form of a longblock. This means that our customer has sent us from his facilities in Central Europe an equipment consisting of:
- Engine block
- Oil sump
- Crankshaft
- Camshaft
- Piston and rod assembly
- Push rods
- Complete cylinder heads
- Oil pump
- Timing system
- Flywheel and ring gear
Other auxiliary elements such as manifolds, starter motor, coolers, water pumps, and other accessories are not part of the long block. These minor components, which usually require less repair or maintenance and do not require the intervention of our specialized Deutz Mwm Jenbacher and Guascor engine technicians, remain at our client’s facilities during the repair process. This not only saves transportation costs but also avoids unnecessary interventions and ensures efficiency in the repair time.
In this particular case, the engine required significant repairs to restore its optimal functioning. One of the main challenges was machining the block, which had erosions in several areas where the engine sleeves are seated. These erosions could cause water leaks and, consequently, the mixture of water with oil, which could cause serious damage to the engine. Our team of experts has carried out precise and detailed machining to correct these imperfections and ensure a tight and secure seal.
As for the crankshaft and camshafts, they were determined to be in good condition and considered reusable. This not only represents significant savings for our client but also demonstrates the quality and durability of these key components of Deutz Mwm engines.
We also carried out a complete refurbishment of the piston and rod assembly and engine cylinder heads in this particular project. Our main objective was to completely restore these vital components, replacing all wear elements with genuine or original OEM spare parts for Deutz Mwm.
The refurbishment of the piston and rod assembly, including pistons, piston rings, piston pins and bearings, ensures optimal functionality and long-term durability. These components experience a high level of wear during engine operation and it is crucial to replace them with quality parts to ensure reliable and efficient performance.
In addition, the engine cylinder heads were also subjected to a thorough refurbishment process. Comprehensive inspections were carried out to identify any wear, damage, or deformation. Necessary repairs were carried out, and wear parts were replaced to ensure optimal performance. We use only genuine or original OEM spare parts to ensure compatibility and quality of the refurbished cylinder heads.
Once the refurbishment and assembly of the engine were completed, we conducted a hydraulic test to ensure that there were no leaks in any part of the engine. This test is essential to verify the integrity of the engine’s connections, gaskets, and seals, ensuring that it meets the highest standards of quality and performance.
Finally, before delivering the engine to our client, we applied a coat of primer and paint in our specialized painting booth. This additional layer of protection helps prevent corrosion and maintain an impeccable aesthetic appearance of the engine.
