Reconditioning of thermostatics in cogeneration engines

May 22, 2024by Analía

This week at RS Motor, a new reconditioning job for cogeneration engine components has been carried out. On this occasion, it involves thermostatic valves.

These maintenance processes are carried out by inspecting all components of the thermostatic valves and replacing necessary parts with genuine and/or original OEM spare parts for Deutz-Mwm Jenbacher and Guascor spare parts.

Inspection and reconditioning of thermostatic valves can be performed as part of scheduled preventive maintenance or due to the detection of a malfunction that requires corrective measures. The main failures of thermostatic valves include coolant leaks or improper functioning of the thermostatic elements, which can lead to inappropriate engine operating temperatures.

Thermostatic valves play a crucial role in controlling the operating temperature of an engine. These valves are responsible for regulating the flow of coolant through the cooling circuit based on the engine temperature. Maintaining the engine at an appropriate working temperature is essential to ensure efficient performance, reduce wear, and minimize emissions.

The process carried out for the reconditioning of thermostatic valves is as follows:

Firstly, complete disassembly of the component is performed, followed by a thorough cleaning to eliminate any residue or contaminants that could affect performance. This cleaning also allows for an initial assessment of the condition of the casing and internal elements.

A detailed inspection of all parts is carried out. Any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage on the sealing faces of the gasket and internal components are sought. In case erosions or material loss are found on the sealing faces, machining will be performed to restore the surface finish and ensure a tight seal.

Thermoelements, responsible for opening the coolant passage at specific temperatures, are examined to ensure their proper functioning. If any issues are detected or if the thermoelements do not open and close correctly according to required temperatures, they will be replaced with new components.

Next, the thermoelements are assembled with new O-rings, and the valve is assembled using new gaskets.

Once the thermostatic valve is assembled, it undergoes a hydraulic test to verify the system’s tightness. This test ensures that there are no coolant leaks that could compromise the engine’s performance and reliability.

Finally, original green primer and paint, corresponding to spare parts for Jenbacher engines, are applied to the thermostatic valve. This not only protects the component against corrosion and wear but also helps maintain its original aesthetic appearance.

OPTIMAL ENGINE PERFORMANCE WITH SPARE PARTS FOR DEUTZ-MWM AND JENBACHER

In conclusion, the maintenance and repair work on thermostatic valves carried out by RS Motor is crucial to ensure the proper functioning of internal combustion engines. Proper and periodic care of these components not only guarantees optimal engine performance but also prevents major issues like overheating or other malfunctions. By addressing and resolving potential failures, we ensure the efficiency, durability, and reliability of the cogeneration engines and marine engines we work with.
