In this post we focus on overhaul of Jenbacher engines, specifically on the Jenbacher 6 series cylinder heads., where our customer has sent 18 cylinder heads for reconditioning. In this case the work lasted about 20 days as their surfaces were subjected to machining so that the cylinder head seat area was perfectly rectified and to achieve a correct seal against the block.
These machining operations are carried out with the latest generation of grinding equipment and tooling, precise and fast, where the facilities are highly qualified.
What are the processes for reconditioning Jenbacher 6 series cylinder heads?
Depending on the workshop, the steps may vary, but there are a number of steps that must be carried out in order for the Jenbacher 6 series cylinder heads to be able to perform their function with guarantees.
- Reception.
- Complete disassembly of cylinder heads and all components.
- Ultrasonic cleaning of all cylinder head shells.
- Crack free test.
- Repair of cylinder-head and cylinder-casing seats.
- Replacement of guides.
- Replacement of O-rings and gaskets with new ones.
- Installation of new intake and exhaust seats.
- Installation of new intake and exhaust valves in all cylinder heads.
- Replacement of rotocaps.
- Replacement of valve springs.
- Final hydraulic test.
- Complete cylinder head assembly.
- Priming and exterior painting.
- Packing and shipping.
The use of original spare parts (OEM and/or genuine) and the experience acquired over the years, allow RS Motor to carry out any type of reconditioning achieving excellence.
If before a medium or major preventive maintenance (Overhaul) it is detected or suspected that one or more cylinder heads of a Jenbacher 6 series engine are in bad condition, it is advisable to replace them or recondition them as soon as possible to avoid further damage to the engine.
The importance of a good Jenbacher 6-series cylinder head reconditioning means a stable and safe engine running, as it is one of the most stressed parts of the engine. These stresses are caused by high pressures and temperatures.
Jenbacher 6-series cylinder heads rarely fail without previous symptoms. However, they must be properly checked and maintained according to the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule. On the contrary, it is more often the case that internal components (valves, seats, springs, etc.) wear out due to operating hours and accumulated wear.
